The film follows John, a fervent activist in post-World War II Germany, dedicated to defending animal rights—particularly those of insects—and opposing the use of DDT and all insecticides. At a time when activists began highlighting DDT’s harmful effects on human health and urging the government to ban it, John’s convictions are put to the test.

An invasion of bedbugs disrupts his home, splitting his days into a routine of work and nights filled with fear, stress, bites, and suffering. This ordeal triggers a complete reversal of his beliefs, driving him into a relentless battle against the insects. Determined to eradicate them by any means—burning them, dousing them with chemicals—he eventually resorts to spraying his own house with DDT, the very substance he once fought against.
